On May 19, 2021, the International Magnesium Institute (IMI) organized the Magnesium Nutrition Symposium at the 19th Chinese Young Soil Scientists (also known as the 14th Chinese Young Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer Scientific Conference).

With the purpose of magnesium nutrition academic exchange, the symposium showed the latest research progress and achievements of young scholars in the field of plant nutrition, jointly contributing to "Helping Rural Vitalization and Building a Beautiful China". Nearly 200 experts from different fields of education, scientific research, promotion units and fertilizer enterprises attended the conference online and on site, carrying out in-depth discussions on magnesium nutrition research.

Professor Guo Shiwei chaired the symposium

Prof. Guo Shiwei (Chief Scientist of IMI, professor of Nanjing Agricultural University) chaired the meeting and encouraged participants to exchange ideas on interdisciplinary research, learning from each other and making progress together. The magnesium symposium invited nine young researchers of magnesium nutrition to introduce research progress of magnesium nutrition in recent years, including Prof. Xiurong Wang (South China Agricultural University), Prof. Qi Chen (Kunming University of Science and Technology), Prof. Cailian Yu (Harbin University of Science and Technology), associate Prof. Yueqiang Zhang (Southwest University, reported online), post-doctor Dunyi Liu (Southwest University, reported online), associate researcher Qunfeng Zhang (Tea Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences), associate Prof. Zhifeng Lu (Huazhong Agricultural University), PhD student Dongdong He and Siwen Zhang (Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University).

Young researchers of magnesium nutrition introduced the research progress

The report content of the symposium covers many aspects, including the mechanisms of magnesium on alleviation aluminum toxicity and cadmium stresses, magnesium nutrition and beneficial microbial symbiosis, progress of magnesium nutrition research in Chinese citrus, tea tree, winter rape, pepper, and cabbage, exchangeable magnesium status in paddy soil, acidic soil amendment, as well as the effect of magnesium fertilizer on crop yield and quality.
