On July 31, 2025, the 2nd Annual Conference of the Magnesium Fertilizer Committee of the China Alliance for Industry-University-Research Innovation in Medium and Trace Elements and Fertilizers was held at the Hohhot International Convention and Exhibition Center in Inner Mongolia. The conference was Hosted by the National Academy of Agricultural Green Development of China Agricultural University and the National Key Laboratory of Efficient Utilization of Nutrient Resources. It was organized by Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, Weimin Technology (Sanya) Co., Ltd., and the China Alliance for Industry-University-Research Innovation in Medium and Trace Elements and Fertilizers. Under the theme "Industry-University Collaboration for Green and Efficient Development", the conference brought together experts, scholars and enterprise representatives from national agricultural research, fertilizer production, agricultural technology extension agencies. Participants shared the recent scientific advances and practical industrial experience. Fusuo Zhang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor at China Agricultural University, and Director of the International Magnesium Nutrition Institute, attended the conference in person to provide strategic guidance for the development of the magnesium fertilizer industry.
Dr. Yanliang Guo, Managing Director of K+S (Shenzhen) Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd., presided over the conference. At the conference, Chunjian Li, Professor of China Agricultural University and Executive Deputy Director of the International Magnesium Nutrition Institute, joined experts from research institutions and field practice, presented systematic results based on detailed experimental data. The participating experts included Liangquan Wu, Associate Professor of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University; Baige Zhang, Researcher of the Vegetable Research Institute of Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences; Hongwei Tan, Researcher of Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences; and Lu Tian, Associate Researcher of the Inner Mongolia Academy of Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Sciences. Based on detailed field data, the experts presented clear evidence of the role of magnesium in improving crop yield, product quality, and production efficiency across different cropping systems.
During the conference, representatives from magnesium fertilizer enterprises shared their practical experience. These included Wenquan Lai, Vice President of Ruifeng Ecological Group, Weihan Wang, General Manager of Yantai Zhongde Group, and Liang Wu, Director of the Green Agriculture Research Institute of Xinyangfeng Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd.. Their presentations provided concrete examples from industry-university-research collaboration to production through product development, large scale production, field application, and market promotion. Participants gained a clear understanding of how magnesium fertilizer technologies move from research to full industrial implementation across the value chain.
A special interactive question and answer session was held to promote deeper integration among industry, university, research institutions, and end users. Representatives from application and promotion enterprises such as Guangxi Yuhua, as well as fertilizer manufacturers including Yuntu Holdings, Ezhong Ecology and Stanley, raised practical challenges faced in the production, technology development, field application, market promotion of magnesium enriched products. They engaged in active discussion with professors and experts from Huazhong Agricultural University, Shihezi University, China Agricultural University and other institutions. The exchanges focused on solving real production bottlenecks and accelerating the practical implementation of magnesium fertilizer technologies.
In response to enterprise concerns regarding raw material selection, Chuanfeng Fu, Project Manager of K+S, presented a diversified "raw material toolkit". The toolkit included natural magnesium sulfate monohydrate, anhydrous magnesium sulfate, natural magnesium granules, potassium magnesium chloride, potassium magnesium fulvate, and other magnesium based raw inputs, providing flexible options for product formulation and industrial application.
Cuncang Jiang, Chairman of the China Alliance for Industry-University-Research Innovation in Medium and Trace Elements and Fertilizers and Professor at the College of Resources and Environment of Huazhong Agricultural University, strong support for this conference. He stated that the Magnesium Fertilizer Committee is the first and most outstanding special committee established under the Alliance. Based on the presentations, he noted that the magnesium fertilizer sector has experienced rapid growth within the medium and trace element fertilizer industry over the past decade. He emphasized that magnesium fertilizer has taken a leading role in basic research, applied research, and the development of new fertilizer products. He encouraged all stakeholders to continue strengthening collaboration to accelerate the industrialization of magnesium fertilizer technologies and contribute to national food security and agricultural modernization.
Academician Fusuo Zhang reviewed the development of magnesium fertilizer in China and highlighted the progress achieved over the past nine years through the sustained efforts of the International Magnesium Nutrition Institute. He noted that awareness of magnesium fertilization has been widely promoted, industrial participation has increased steadily, application scenarios now cover the entire country, and the strategic importance of magnesium has become increasingly evident. He emphasized that the efficient utilization of magnesium fertilizer has entered a critical stage of industrial development, which requires stronger collaboration among research institutes, industry organizations, enterprises, other stakeholders. He emphasized that efficient magnesium utilization should serve as a central driver of industrialization. All parties should work together to deepen research and expand the large-scale application of magnesium fertilizer in modern agricultural systems.
Academician Fusuo Zhang expressed strong appreciation for the conference content and the lively atmosphere of on-site exchanges and interactions. He particularly commended K+S for demonstrating strong entrepreneurial vision and strong social responsibility in advancing the application and promotion of magnesium fertilizer. He further proposed that research institutions should focus more closely industry needs and focus on core technical challenges. He suggested that enterprises should increase support for academic research, learn frominternational experience to establish robust research and development systems, and strengthen innovation capacity through long-term technical cooperation and talent development. He called on all stakeholders to work together to advance technological progress in magnesium fertilizer, and s to provide solid scientific and technological support for the sustainable development of China’s agriculture.
