On the occasion of the Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival, to implement the important spirit of the General Secretary’s reply to the students of the STB of China Agricultural University, an innovative agricultural product market was held to highlight the STB’s achievements in agricultural innovation, promote its agricultural products, and support sustainable income growth for farmers. This unique event was co-organized by Yunnan Erhai Valley Green Development STB Cluster and Yunnan State Farms Group, took place from September 18 to 20, 2024, in Gusheng Village, Wanqiao Town, Dali City, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The Pinghe Honey Pomelo STB, as one of the featured teams, participated in this event. On September 19, it was highlighted in the CCTV News Harvest Festival special program “Harvest Time! Science and Technology Backyard”, a segment of the “County on the Move” series.

In the program, Hongyao Wang, the student representative of the Pinghe Honey Pomelo STB, vividly introduced Pinghe County, known as the " World's pomelo Homeland and China's pomelo capital", and its characteristic agricultural product, the Guanxi Honey pomelo. Wang also briefly explained the efforts of STB teachers and students in this naturally gifted region, focusing on technological innovation, the application of research findings, and talent cultivation within the pomelo industry. These efforts aim to promote the green and sustainable development of the honey pomelo industry.

During the live interaction segment, CCTV host Yue Liangjie visited the Pinghe Honey Pomelo STB booth and had an in-depth discussion with the students. Ran Li and Hongyao Wang, representatives of the STB, revealed the technical secrets behind reducing fertilizer use while improving the quality and efficiency of honey pomelo production. They also addressed various challenges faced during the fertilizer reduction process. From the initial doubts to gaining the firm trust of farmers, the six years of dedicated efforts by the teachers and students of Pinghe Honey Pomelo STB have not only helped farmers reduce fertilizer costs and improve pomelo quality but also ensured stable and even increased yields. Since the establishment of the STB, the county's fertilizer input has been reduced by 60%, saving nearly 1.1 billion yuan in costs.

Host Yue Liangjie appreciated the efforts and technical achievements of the Pinghe Honey Pomelo STB in supporting farmers. After tasting Guanxi Honey Pomelo from Pinghe, she gave it high praise.
